Roof Vent Leaking Water

Look for cracks in the base of flexible rubber flashing or broken seams in metal varieties of vent pipe flashing the rubber gasket that surrounds the vent pipe could be rotted. Some roof leaks are tough to locate. Sometimes the water shows up at a ceiling spot distant from the leak. A roof that leaks around a vent pipe is a common cause of small water stains on a ceiling or water leaking into a home. Often the rubber boot on the vent will be worn or torn the metal plastic base will have a crack or broken seam or a few nails will be loose or missing.

It could be that a vent is leaking further up on the roof and the water is traveling down a rafter before entering the wall. Roof vent leaking is always a problem. If any of these issues are present water will be able to enter your roof along the pipe. Keep in mind that roof leaks may start much higher on the roof than the location where they appear.

Check plumbing vent boots and roof vents if water is entering from that area to cause the leaking roof. A good roofing contractor would have installed a roof vent that prevents water intrusion. A plumbing vent pipe is a common culprit for leaks.
