Run water over the low side of the penetration for several minutes while the helper watches for any water droplets. Use a wet dry vac to clean the overflow pan and inspect the bottom corners and edges with a flashlight. Across the joists lay a piece of plywood and put a bucket to contain the water and if necessary prepare a second bucket to replace the first when already full. If the leak isn t obvious have a helper watch in the attic while you get on the roof with a garden hose.

It is important to prevent water damaging the ceiling. The immediate thing to do is to contain dripping water from the leak. However when it is not practical to climb up on the roof to fix a leak such as during the winter months you can repair a leaky roof temporarily from the inside if you can determine where the leak is occuring from the underside of your roof. Push the shingle or plywood into the tar and trowel more roofing tar around the edges of the patch.

Use a sponge to absorb any standing water. Solving air leaks attic condensation is due to humid air leaking or vented into the attic. Vent humid air from kitchens and bathrooms to the outside instead of the attic to avoid this problem. Use enough water to mimic heavy rains.

When you re done sealing your attic bypasses push the insulation back into place with an old broom handle or stick as you back out of the attic. The easiest thing you can do to fix water leaking from your ac vent is to reach up and feel for any air escaping from around the sides of the air vent. After the rain as stopped and the sun is out put on some rubber soled shoes and use the same measurement to find the leaky area on the outside of your roof. Before you leave your attic use a measuring tape to roughly map out where the leak is so you can find it once the rain stops.

Trowel the roofing tar into the leak on the underside of the roof deck using a putty knife. If there is inadequate ventilation in your attic then contract your local roofing contractor for information on adding roof vents. Then finish up by sealing the access hatch with self sticking foam weatherstrip photos 10 and 11. Otherwise moisture will build up and you can face possible mold problems in your attic.

The next step is to ensure that you add a vapor barrier to your ductwork. The pipe is usually connected to your drip pan and discharges the condensate outside. Begin soaking low on the roof just above where the leak is visible inside the house. With the unit turned off inspect your drain pan and pipe for leaks.
